Race #6 hare Scramble report page
"Coyote Kill"
January 3-4th 2009
We set off Saturday morning for the 5hr journey to Brooksville FL, just north of Orlando.
As we got closer to the track we could see in the distance the huge dust clouds the quads were making, I looks like its going to be a dry race.
We got setup in the pits and was amazed how many riders had turned out for this race.
I did get to watch some of the quad racing, it was fast and it was very dusty, I walked some of the track to see what it was going to be like and it looked great.
Practice.
I normally enjoy my practice lap, setting off at 8.30 on a bright crisp morning on a new 12 mile loop is a great feeling.
When I gassed up by bike 15 minutes before practice I noticed my front tire was flat, on closer inspection I found the valve had ripped off...great.
20 minutes later I had it fixed with a new tube installed and still made practice with time to spare.
The course was awesome, it was fast, but very technical with a few steep climbs, I managed to do all the "hard sections" with ease.
I did decide that I would not attempt them in the race unless they were clear of riders.
In Florida this is a hill...
The star line was a hike
One of the only Honda`s in the Master A class, and a 2004 one at that.
The Race
I Lined my bike up early in order to get a good start, I felt a little nervous but decided I would ride the track and not get too intimidated by the other A riders in my class.
As the horn blew for my start I was off to another good start, but I collided with another rider 20 feet off the line and had to shut off, by the time I got to the first turn I was about 10th.
I pushed on and kept up a good pace, as I came round on the first lap I was up to 6th, I was having a problem as my bike was not running good at all.
I managed to do 4 laps and worked my way up to 4th, I had an incident on the last lap while following a group of slower riders when another rider clipped me.
As I let him by he shouted some obscenities at me, I chased him for a mile or so and realized he was not that fast, he made a mistake and I passed him by.
I just realized as I completed this race that my trusty 2004 CR250 Honda was not fast enough to keep up with the bigger 450`s.
I will see the rest of the season out and run the Florida GNCC on it and then I will just have to accept I'm on a slower bike.
First corner on the gas.
One of the drop offs.
There's 4 blisters under that glove.
Results.
Thanks'!
Over 900 riders attended this race over the weekend period, from peewee to AA riders everyone had a great time, including me!
Thank you FTR Sun coast Trail Blazers and all the organizers and riders that made this event possible.
