Hare Scramble race #7 January 2nd 2010
Brooksville, Florida
This was my race...
In the past couple of weeks I have been out on the bike practicing hard, I was prepared for this race and felt very strong on the bike.
---------------------------------------------------------
We set off early Saturday morning for the 5hr journey to Brooksville, It was really cold around 55 degrees.
As we pulled into the pits I could see parts of the track, it looked to be in perfect shape, slightly muddy but drying out nice.
We set up camp and fired up the generator to run the heaters in the camper, it was late afternoon and the temperature was dropping.
I took my 4-wheeler out and checked out the track, it was a mixture of clay and sand and had some good elevation changes.
We ate an early dinner and got to bed before 9pm, as it was too cold to sit outside and the only warm place was in bed.

Sunday Practice...
My bike was running awesome due to some re-jetting and high octane fuel I was using, I also just serviced all the suspension and linkages so my bike felt tight.
I set off on my practice lap, it was very cold, I wore a jacket but my fingers were numb and cold.
I ran a very fast practice lap, I did this to keep warm and to set myself a fast pace for my race.
There were some very fast sections where my bike was running full throttle and it sounded like it was going to blow, but I kept it pinned anyway,
On the "Daytona 500" section the braking bumps caused me to tank slap badly braking from about 70mph, but in a nice controlled kind of way.
I tackled the "Claw" an uphill section that most riders were not trying, I cleaned it easily then tackled "the log"...
I fell and was unable to make it over it, I decided I wasn't going to try that in my race it was not worth the risk.
I came back from practice really happy and felt very good on the bike.

The Race
In a motocross I can holeshot pretty much any race, In Hare scramble racing my starts just plain SUCK....
I got my bike down on the start early and had a good line to the first turn.
Again my row was around 30 riders long with both Super Senior A and Master A classes starting together.
As my line started again I blew it, I was the last rider to leave the line and I was pissed...
This time there was no dust to worry about so I could see way ahead and could choose lines around the other riders.
As I went round the first few corners one rider was blocking my way, he ended up stalling on a downhill with me stuck behind him
I was screaming at him to get out the way and as I pulled my bike free I was pumped with adrenalin and way behind the leaders.
During that first lap I overtook 12 riders out of the 17 riders in my class, I kept my bike pinned on the fast sections and rode round anyone that was in my way.
On lap 2 I tried the "Claw" the hard uphill climb and stalled the bike, it took a minute to get going again but that didn't stop me riding faster.
I kept up my fast pace and never backed off, I didn`t even notice who I was passing or what class they were in, it didn`t matter.
On lap 3 I went through the checkpoint and was now leading my class!
With the next rider behind me by nearly a minute on lap 4 I tried the "Claw" again and made it up to the top.
I was now lapping riders from the other classes and screaming at them to get out of my way,
My lap times meant I was going to run 4 laps so when I crossed the finish I had been riding 1hr 58:29 completed 4 laps and I wasn't even tired.
Here is the video of my start, cover your ears if you are offended my cussing....
