The Honda CR250 hare scramble bike.

Back to the future on a 2-stroke.

Well I finally got the bike delivered (thank`s Tony) from my buddy up in Pennsylvania down to Florida just in time to get a couple of weeks practice before the first race.

I took my CRF450 and the CR250 out to the Seminole MX track for a comparison just see where each bike was better than the other.

First off I ran 6 laps on the big motocross track on the 450 to get the feel of the track and conditions, which just happened to be perfect.

In the  90+ degrees Florida heat riding on the outdoor track actually feels cooler than sitting around the Ez-Up trying to cool off.

I unfortunately twisted my foot around when I ran wide on a fast left hander which although not that painfull reminded me how fast you can go on a 450.

I took a short break then fired up the CR250 for the first time, I peeled out onto the track and wound the throttle on.

It had that familiar choking cough that most 2-strokes have when you first get going, as the motor cleared it reved out with alarming speed.

Had I not noticed that it had "249cc" stamped on the cylinder I would have bet my grandmother this thing was a 125,   It was sloooow.

Or did it just feel slow?

I rode 6 blocks of 6 laps each on the 250 progressively getting better each time, I decided to leave the 450 parked for the remainder of the day.

I followed my buddy who was riding an 07KTM450 into a wide sweeping corner where I knew a big 450 four stroke would normally take the outside line.

He did, so I went for the shorter inside line, as we exited the turn  I had about 10 feet lead on him, I pinned the throttle to the next turn and even on his KTM450 he couldn`t pass me.

Wow... maybe this 250 just feels slow, it certainly wasn't tiring to ride, I felt like I could ride this thing all day, on my 450 I would be done this late in the day.

Riding the 250 gave me a reality check on how lazy I had become riding 450 four strokes.

Go into a corner on a 450 in any gear? just blip the throttle, maybe some clutch and you rocket through the turn.

Try that on the 250 and it just dies, you HAVE TO Remember which gear your in.

I don't remember the last time I had to change down 3 gears to go round a corner to stop  the engine from bogging.

So, if I can re-teach my left foot to change gear more, keep the bike running in its "power band" , get used to the ring..ding...ding...ding again, I should be sound as a pound.

Now where did they put that Flux capacitor....
